Alexa Stirling was a childhood friend of Bobby Jones.  In fact, his first tournament victory came against her when he was a six years old.   He later said it was the proudest trophy of his life and the only one with which he ever slept.  Stirling was a great player in her own right, and would go on to win three U.S. Women's Amateur titles (1916, 1919, 1920), finish as runner-up three times and win the Canadian Women's Amateur title twice.
