An aerial view, c. 1935, of Hains Point and East Potomac Golf Course, Washington, D.C. The course opened around 1920 and gets a lot of play from local golfers. I give lessons out here, where they have a decent driving range and three practice putting greens. Years after this photo was taken they added an executive and par-3 course. The courses themselves are flat, ragged and not that pretty, but the view of the Washington Monument in the background as you play certain holes gives the place a certain unique quality. Too bad the city couldn't put some real money into really fixing the place up, but that's a whole other story. |
