Old Tom Morris (1821-1908), c.1895. "I began to play golf in reality when I was about seven or eight years of age, and I continued to do so, at every available opportunity, until, in due time, I went to work at making clubs and balls, principally the latter, with Allan Robertson." Winner of four British Opens, he played in the championship until he was 75 years old. In 1866 he equaled Allan Robertson's record set eight years earlier by shooting a 79 on the Old Course (36-43). Old Tom was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1976.
