Pebble Beach Golf Links was built in 1919, and stands as one of the best course in the world.  In 1929, around the time this photo of the 7th hole was taken,  it hosted the U.S. Amateur.  Bobby Jones tied for medalist honors but lost his first 18-hole match.  With time on his hands he ended up talking to Alister MacKenzie, who designed nearby Cypress Point.  Jones had the idea of building his own course in Georgia.  He and MacKenzie ended up joining forces to create one of the most famous courses in the world - Augusta National, which hosts the Masters each year.
