Gary Player at the 1998 British Open at Royal Birkdale. Gary won his first major in 1959 at the British Open and his last in 1978 at the Masters, when he was 42 years old. That '78 Masters was one of the best I ever saw. I was senior in high school and remember him shooting the back nine in 30 for a final round 64 to beat Tom Watson and Hubert Green by a shot. That was a great tournament. Player is a great example of what hard work, combined with physical fitness and eating healthy, can do for you. He was one of the the first players to lift weights and stress proper conditioning and nutrition - a man way ahead of his time. Player was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
