The Road Hole at the Old Course, St. Andrews, Scotland.  Allan Roberston is credited with designing, back in the 1850's,  the devilish bunker that fronts the 17th green.  Here we see Andrew Kirkaldy, an intuition in St. Andrews and runner-up in the 1899 Open Championship, putting in 1924.  Once, when playing with Prime Minister A.J. Balfour, Kirkaldy took four to get out of the Road Hole bunker and in the process let out a few choice expletives.  When Balfour mentioned his swearing, Kirkaldy replied, "Swear! Not me.  I said nae mair than a meenister would say in the pulpit if a fly settled on his nose."  (From Michael Tobert's Pilgrims in the Rough).
